…at a kitchen table in Birmingham, an idea was born.
Four friends, with an enthusiasm for whisky & whiskey, beer & TimTams (google it, but yes, penguins are better!), chatting & drinking until the wee hours of the morning, wondering why the UK's second city didn't have its own distillery.
All the friends could do was share more snacks, share more whiskey, gossip & share ideas about whiskey, until one of them said "let's make whiskey".
So just like that, oh and after a lot of research AND learning AND you tube AND filling in one million application forms AND tasting lots of whiskey AND lets throw in a global pandemic too... What seemed like an impossible pipe dream started to come true...
Now, less than 50m from that kitchen table, Spirit of Birmingham, Birmingham's very own distillery, is in production! We have casks of spirit maturing!! In the meantime, we have created the most delicious English Vodka and Gin, using the same premium mash-bill as our Whiskey-to-be (no half jobs here).
Go to our shop to purchase SoB signature Dark Beer, Single Pot Still Vodka, Grain to Glass London Dry Gin or our Grain to Glass Tasting Experience; and help get this cheeky little English Whiskey distillery off the ground.
This is his dream, his recipes, probably his fault. Precision master, science geek, all the nerdy stuff that the rest of us slept through at school.
Fills in the forms, reads the boring bits, does the sums, tells us if we can spend the money or not. Mama to Uisce the distillery cat.
She keeps everything together and moving forward. The glue that binds, the grease for the wheel, "the Boss".
Sleeping partner, drinking partner and he lives in a land far far away, down under. Sweeping in twice or thrice a year, master of mischief, brightening everyone's day and encouraging us to do crazy things (like open a distillery).
