Once upon a time... in Birmingham
…at a kitchen table, an idea was born.
Four friends, with an enthusiasm for whisky & whiskey, beer & TimTams (google it, but yes, penguins are better!), chatting & drinking until the wee hours of the morning, wondering why the UK's second city didn't have its own distillery.
All the friends could do was share more snacks, share more whiskey, gossip & share ideas about whiskey, until one of them said "let's make whiskey".
So just like that, oh and after a lot of research AND learning AND filling in about a million application forms AND tasting lots of whiskey AND lets throw in a global pandemic too... What seemed like an impossible pipe dream started to come true...
Now, less than 50m from that kitchen table, Spirit of Birmingham, Birmingham's very own whiskey distillery, is in production! We celebrated our inaugural pot still whiskey bottling in the Summer of 2025 and our first single malt in Spring 2026.
We have created the most delicious English vodka and gin, using the same premium mash-bill as our whiskey-to-be (no half jobs here), and bagged four awards in the process. The latest additions to our line up are a specially sourced single origin Jamaican rum & our very popular (& dairy free) coconut liqueur.
